NAKUPENDA: PRISON ISLAND & SAND BANK

– full day
A full day devoted to relaxation, to enjoying the sun and the sea… with some historical notes! This guided tour will take you on a journey through two of the most suggestive locations in Zanzibar: Prison Island, which was originally a place of detention for slaves and is presently a sanctuary of the famous Giant Tortoises; then, by dhow – the typical Zanzibari boat, further on to Sand Bank, a strip of dazzling white sand where you will enjoy a beach lunch of grilled seafood and tropical fruit. Guided snorkelling tour around the bank (snorkelling gear is included).

DOLPHIN TOUR

– half a day

An early morning drive will take you south to Kizimkazi, where a boat will take you out to sea to meet the dolphins. If you are fast enough, you will be able to swim and follow them, as they are very friendly to human beings. Please note that the dolphin sightings are in no way guaranteed and no refunds are possible in case of no sighting. Best period for sighting is August to November. Snorkeling gear will be provided.

BLUE SAFARI

– full day

“Safari” means trip in Swahili… this is a full day trip at sea. Aboard a dhow, the traditional local boat used by fishermen, we first reach a sand strip located off Menai Bay reserve which is only visible during low tide. Then we proceed to Kwale island, where you will admire an impressive ancient baobab tree. Snorkeling nearby will be followed by a tasty lunch of fresh fish and tropical fruit. The last leg of our journey will be a visit to the mangroves that encompass the lagoon: a good chance for a last swim, if you wish

NUNGWI FISHING VILLAGE – full day

An early morning drive takes you to Nungwi, up the Northern corner of the island, where you will be shown around the fishing village and meet the local village people and visit the dhow shipyard. Afterwards, the guide will take you to a natural aquarium where you will be able to swim with the sea turtles. The tour will end with some relaxing on the local beach at sunset (drinks not included and readily available at the local beach bars and restaurants).

STONE TOWN & SPICE TOUR – half a day

Departure by bus to a spice farm, a journey among the scents and flavours of an inland Zanzibari farm where you will learn about the surprising nutritional, therapeutic and medical properties of the plants and spices cultivated on the island. At the end of the spice tour, gastronomic stop with fresh fruit tasting. It will be possible to purchase the zero- kilometer farm products, if interested.

We now head towards the beating heart of the island, Stone Town, a UNESCO heritage site since 2000. Stone Town represents a cross-section of African lifestyle: markets, scents, colors, culture and shops. Guided tour along the streets of the old town with possibility of shopping.

MNEMBA ATOLL

This half-day trip is devoted to the sea and its underwater wonders. Aboard a typical local boat you head towards the atoll, the most famous conservation area in Zanzibar, boasting a densely populated and healthy reef. Aboard a typical Zanzibari boat you will head towards Mnemba Atoll where you will snorkel in the crystalline waters that surround the island..
